360° Assessment
Northwestern University is committed to helping you develop into an effective leader. An essential starting point is to give you the opportunity to learn about your leadership strengths and weaknesses. This assessment does so in three ways through your own assessment and from those who know you as a leader:
- First, you'll learn what your leadership assets are and get advice about how you can continue to develop those assets.
- Second, you'll identify gaps in your leadership, including those areas that you haven't yet experienced, and get advice about how you can close those gaps.
- Third, you'll be able to measure your progress during your time at NU and for the rest of your career.
As you may know, leadership assessments are a commonly used tool for high potential leaders in organizations around the world. Northwestern is one of the first universities committed to customizing this tool for and providing this same opportunity to all of its students. By completing this assessment today and at other vital moments during your time at Northwestern, you will have a powerful story to tell others about your leadership effectiveness - one that will set you apart from others.
As you proceed through this assessment, it's essential that you distinguish formal positions from the practice of leadership. At Northwestern, we are committed to developing the leadership of each student. Your responses should be based on your actual experiences regardless of whether you have ever held a formal leadership title or role.
At NU's Center for Leadership, we work with experienced leaders and researchers from around the world to identify key assets that will be essential for tomorrow's leaders. Their ideas shape how we approach leadership at Northwestern. Specifically, this assessment looks at 6 assets:
- Asking powerful questions
- Inspiring others through narrative
- Mobilizing people and harnessing difference
- Thriving in collaborative and hierarchical settings
- Navigating and leading change
- Overcoming adversity and failure
Once your assessment is completed, you will meet with one of our leadership coaches to understand your results and to identify specific next steps that you can take to develop your leadership.
